An Interview with Our First Spotlight: Lisa Viggiano

As the opening night creeps up, I decided that it's a good time to kick off with a little "visit" with our wonderful Broadway World Best Female Vocalist Spotlight Lisa Viggiano!

For those of you who don't know Lisa, she had taken a bit of a hiatus from cabaret and recently made her way back to the cabaret stage with her critically acclaimed show, NIGHT IN THE CITY. A 2017 MAC nominee for female vocalist, Lisa is currently performing in in NYC and San Francisco. Coast to Coast, Lisa performed as a singer/actor since youth, sharing stage & screen with talents such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Tom Hanks, Rita Moreno and Bonnie Raitt.

Lisa has been sung the National Anthem for local sports teams: the Devils, the Rangers, the Nets & the Mets. In addition to the cabaret stages of NYC, performance venues include San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts & Herbst Theatre, and The Gardenia in Los Angeles. By day, Lisa uses her voice as a speech-language pathologist for special needs students, helping them to find THEIR voices! Recordings include the original cast recording for the musical "Oh Progeny!", "Evening Prayer", "One Private Moment”, and an original suite of lullabies, cowritten with Christopher Marlowe, "Keepsake Lullabies".

Here are some interesting questions I asked Lisa.

1) Can you share with us an interesting fact that most people don’t know about you?

Hmmmmm....this is tough, since I'm a "heart on the sleeve" type of person LOL

I would say that I am obsessed with hiking because I love the quiet and the beauty of nature. I'm not sure that's so obvious when you meet me, since I am always on the go & very much a city person...

2) You work full time, you are a wife, a mother and an artist. How do you manage it all? What is your source of motivation ?

Well, let's say it is quite a juggle, but if I make sure I schedule in some down time in between all of the moving parts, it's delightfully manageable. My source of motivation is that when I experience the joy and freedom that musical creations can bring, I am a much better speech-language therapist, wife and mom.

3) Name three things that never fails to put a smile on your face!

1) redwood trees

2) making music with honest and heartfelt artists (like you and John at Spotlight on You!!)

3) my boys: kids, David & Sammy, and husband Dave ️

4) Share with us what you have in the pipeline for us to be on the lookout for!

Shows: THREE'S A CHARM, at Don't Tell Mama NYC on 7/28 & at Society Cabaret in San Francisco 8/19. Singer/Songwriter Tim Di Pasqua is on piano, arrangements, vocals and leading the band (in fact the show is named after one of Timmy's original songs!), Matt Scharfglass is on bass, and Kenji Tajima is on cajon. We put the show together back in January, thinking we would do a one-nighter. We've had so much fun, we have already performed the show three times ("threes a charm"!), and I am SO looking forward to the next two!

While in San Francisco, I will be appearing in the Richmond Ermet AIDS Foundation Gala at the Herbst Theatre on 8/20.

And...there will be some fall and winter surprises

We are honored to have Lisa Viggiano to kick start our open mic! Come join us in welcoming out first spotlight and mark your calendars for her upcoming performances!
