Quality time with the VERY talented Amy Wolk!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

In case, you've forgotten, here's a quick reminder! The next open mic is coming up NEXT THURSDAY night, May 10th!! Please make sure you have the right date on your calendar!

It's my honor and pleasure today, to share with you, some "quality" moments with Bistro/MAC winner, the very talented Amy Wolk!

For those of you who don't know her, here is her bio for starters!

Amy Wolk is the 2014 Bistro Award winner for Musical Comedy, and has won 3 MAC awards, two for her cabaret performances, including the 2011 MAC for Musical Comedy for Amy Wolk Sings Bette Midler’s Divine Madness, and the 2004 MAC for Female New York Debut for her show Different For Girls. In addition, her song, "The Brit Song" written with William TN Hall won the 2015 MAC Award for Comedy/Novelty song, and was the winner of the first Dirty Little Songwriters' competition. She was nominated for 3 MAC Awards this year, including Musical Comedy, Host, and for her song with Lorinda Lisitza, "Hey, Hey, It's Ok". 3 A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts/CAP21, Amy has appeared in shows at The Duplex, Don’t Tell Mama’s, 54 Below, The Metropolitan Room, and The Laurie Beechman in New York, as well as at Davenport’s in Chicago.

I first met Amy when I was chosen to be the "trophy girl" for MAC awards a few years back! Aside from being an awesome performer and comedian, Amy is am amazing organizer. She managed the backstage like a well-oiled machine! Kudos!

For this exclusive interview, I asked Amy the following questions:

1) Can you share with us a few interesting facts that most people don’t know about you?

I am a certified NY state teacher, and I teach I teach kids who work on Broadway shows and on film/tv sets. It is a really interesting job, and I have met lots of great people doing it.

2) You are a wonderful entertainer, comedian supporter of cabaret and music and so much more. How did it all started? How did you discover your passion for it all and realized that it was what you wanted to do?

My first real show experience with cabaret was singing backup for Lennie Watts' show Give My Regards to Broadway. I had never really done anything like that before, and I started taking classes soon after that, and did my debut show, Different For Girls, in 2003. I realized that cabaret was a really great way for me to be myself onstage, and to show every facet of myself to the audience. I can be weird, and quirky, and vulnerable all at the same time. I always thought I wasn't the type of performer that fit in to a specific type, so in cabaret, I can be whatever type I want. I love that I can take songs that everyone and turn them upside down , and if I can't find a song that fits what I want to say, I can try to write it.

3) Do you have a couple of particularly interesting stories that you'd like to share with the readers? I have tons of stories. Come see one of my shows and hear them!

4) What motivates your creativity and passion for life? Name three things that never failed to put a smile on your face!

My creativity is motivated by the need to make the ordinary, mundane things in my life into funny things. I never thought my life was particularly interesting, but I love finding humor in the everyday. And I love sharing the things I have passion for with others, even something like grammar. I love using my background as a teacher to "educate" my audience.

I love to read, and my students always make me smile. And people falling down. people falling down is always funny.

5) Share with us what you have in the pipeline for us to be on the lookout for!

I am the host/producer/writer of I Only Have Lies For You, a new gameshow that happens monthly at the Laurie Beechman. Our next show is May 20th, and or 10th show is on June 18th! You can listen to episodes for free on iTunes, or check out clips on our Youtube page.

THANK YOU FOR THE INTERVIEW AMY!
